  • We are planning to be in Lindstrom, Minnesota with my parents, our three little boys and maybe a sister of mine for a family reunion from August 4th-6th (Friday-Sunday).

Can anyone recommend a good place for Mass in the area?

My parents and sister aren't traditional Catholics but we might be able to get them to drop us off at a church or let us borrow the rental vehicle (they have done so before when we traveled in Ireland together).

  • IHM is 30 minutes to the west in Oak Grove. You're close to the Wisconsin border to the east, so there may be options there. Some other ones if you go a ways into Minneapolis.

Pretty sure that's the school-- don't think they have Sunday mass. But it's been awhile since I've lived there, might've changed. Maybe Sean Johnson can advise.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

Yes, a few years ago they built a new large church attached to the school, which offers public Masses on Sunday at 7 and 9am (9am is sung Mass when school is in session, but low when school is out).

I looked up the chapel and noticed that it is an SSPX church.  Do you know the priest who is there now?  It sounds like this would be the best option for us but I just want to make sure that the priest there isn't one of the novus ordo priest converts who were not conditionally ordained.

That just changed in the last couple of years, don't worry. We're not sending her down to the other chapel. That's an hour on 35 from Lindstrom with another 3 weeks driving in Downtown St. Paul traffic. Otherwise known as "penance".

Hahaha!  Sounds almost like our normal drive to Mass on Sundays and Holy Day.  It is usually about 40 minutes of straight flow driving on I-66 and then Northern VA with more traffic for the other 30 minutes. 😅

Being with my parents for the trip, a closer location is definitely appreciated.  Thank you everyone for all of the information.  😇

Anyone know about the priest who is there?

  • I like Immaculate Conception as well as my own when I lived in the area, but if you're just visiting, going 3 hours round-trip is not the best solution.

Your best (and really only nearby) bet would be IHM. That area is liturgically, an absolute desert. You have that, and that's it unless you want to commute to Minneapolis each week. If you do not attend Diocesan/FSSP Masses, you're even more out of luck.

I’ve never heard of this venue or the priests. Who are they affiliated with?

Immaculate Conception would probably be our top choice except that we are traveling with my novus ordo family and we are likely to have only one vehicle.  They may be willing to let us use the vehicle for a couple of hours or drop us off if it is not too far but probably not more than that.

It looks like our best option is for the
the IHM school chapel.  Thank you everyone so much for all of the information!  We really appreciate it!

    .
Immaculate Conception (CMRI) used to be in St Cloud for many years, but the congregation recently purchased a new, larger chapel in Sartell. Fr. Benedict Hughes was the resident priest for many years but he moved out west about five years ago, and since then Fr. Molina has been the primary priest there.
