Once I wittnessed a scence of child abuse in a relative's house. I tried to consol the child by telling him about St. Germain whose story I found in olor.com. Since then my mind is occupied with the idea of how we can really be like St. Germain? Was she a normal child or the one given a unique and extraordinary grace out of millions of other children?
  Cases of abused/ill-bred children who turned out to be civil and useful people are not rare. You can find them in any society. They saw that the maltreatments were evil and tried not to imitate their parents. They went out, studied hard, worked hard married and made good use of their bad experiences.
  What makes me look at the above mentioned Saint in wonder is not that. It is the fact that she never complained, never murmured, never tried to defend herself or ask help from a relative a neighbour etc. that she was calm, serene, and never behaved the way traumized children behave. All in peace, the more abused, the more dutiful she became and the more she respected and loved her horrible family members.
  Is it possible for normal children (and adults) to be like this?
I think it will be of great help to some of us if we could.

If the child really was being abused you should have reported it.  You still should.
