Waaaaaaaay back I remember Fr. R. in Canada, while giving an Ignatian retreat, spoke about a book that commented solely on the Collects. How many Collects are composed with a brief appropriate subject, and straightaway arrive at a practical suggestion /conclusion /resolution (prayer) =  Stimulating!  40 words or less and you have plenty to meditate on.  But where that book would be,? or the Title?  that is the mull(ion) dollar question...
Good post to aid us living the Liturgical life. The following is a Collect that provides food for meditation for a few days...So condensed and profound.
    ++++++++++++++
January 31: Feast of St John Bosco... Collect:  ...concéde, quaésumus, ut eodem caritatis igne succénsi, ànimas quaérere, tibique soli servire valeamus.

...: grant, we beseech Thee, that inflamed by the same fire of love, we may win souls and serve Thee alone. Through our Lord...
The measure of love is to love without measure.

Great old book by Dom Guéranger, good searchable PDF, easy download.  I think this is just for the Sundays unfortunately . Use the ' Search in Page' Feature search for COLLECT, there are many results on your scroll bar.
Sample here: Corpus Christi, page 274

''...In the Collect, the Church reminds us of the intention our Lord had in instituting, on the eve of his Passion, the Sacrament of love : —it was to be a perpetual memorial of the Passion, which He was then going to suffer. Our Mother prays, that being thus imbued with the spirit which leads her to pay honour to the Body and Blood of Christ, we may obtain the blessings which were purchased for us by his Sacrifice.

COLLECT. Deus qui nobis sub Sacra mento mirabili passionis tuae memoriam reliquisti : tribue, quaesumus ; ita nos Corporis et Sanguinis tui sacra mysteria venerari, ut redemptionis tuae fructum in nobis jugiter sentiamus. Qui vivis.

O God, who, under the wonderful Sacrament, hast left us a memorial of thy Passion : grant us, we beseech thee, so to reverence the sacred mysteries of thy Body and Blood, that, in our souls, we may always feel the fruit of thy Redemption.  Who livest, etc

    ******************
;) You could go through the whole series, copy ,paste only these comments, and you would have your own book!  How many collects are there in the Latin rite? Maybe 200, just guessing...so it is doable.

St. John Bosco, pray for us.

  • Yeah if I couldn't find one already compiled I was thinking of making one and just printing a small book on Lulu.  My wife and I just received a book that was reviewed on WM Review, called The Liturgical Rosary: Meditations For Each Hour, Day & Season of the Liturgical Year.  It's great, but I would have included the collects, so I'm looking to complement it with something easily accessible.
    please pray for me

  • I have successfully used Chatgpt to provide all of the Collects in Sacral English translation of the Roman Missal (since there is no Official English, all are copyright, only Latin is Official of course).  I had to do Proper of Season the Propers of the Saints, Common of Saints, Common of Feasts of BVM all separate and in some cases had to break those up into further parts.
So now I just have to properly compile them and do some edit/layout work and I'll have what I need.
If anyone is interested in the final product you can pm me and once I'm done I can give you a copy.

My wife and I are going to be using this to supplement our daily rosary
    please pray for me
