  • I want to start up this devotion and was wondering if it can be substituted for regular morning prayers?

Does anyone know of a good website where this office can be found?

    I found one on http://www.liturgies.net/Liturgies/Catholic/LittleOffice1.htm.

    Any advice is appreciated,

    Thank you!

  • It is the Liturgy of the Church.  It is the best morning prayer there is.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • Ah I see I see. I can't seem to find it on Divinum Officium.

You don't have to SING the hymns, do you? Eventually I will learn, but its not absolutely required right?

Thank you for your input! :)

  • No, you don't have to sing.  If you're tone deaf, why torture Heaven?  What moves God's heart is when you pray from your heart to His.
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • Try http://www.ageofmary.com/ .

The Little Office of Our Lady is a shortened Breviary (with a full seven hours - Matins & Lauds, Prime, Tierce, Sext, None, Vespers and Compline) which was very popular in England prior to the apostasy of England in the 1500s. It was maintained both on the Continent and by recusants here. I should buy the full Little Office if I were you.

    Laudate Mariam!

  • A print copy is also available from : St. Bonaventure Publications for $24.00 plus shipping.

Be aware that while the Barionus Press edition is very pretty, it leads off with an introduction by Fr. Berg, the superior general of the FSSP. It also follows the "Editio Typica of the 1961 Breviary." With that edition, they were starting to monkey with the Little Office as they were everything else -- cut a little here, cut a little there -- until they did away with it entirely and brought out the book of "Shorter Christian Prayer." . . . so much for Our Lady!

I believe the other edition dates from 1905.

  • This one [url=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1626203148/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=1626203148&linkCode=as2&tag=httpwwwchanco-20 is available at Amazon as a new paperback, and it's only $11.20; and it's supposed to be the "pre-Vat II version". It was formatted by a person named Karl Keller, therefore, I'm not sure if there are any guarantees against errors.
