Dear visitor, welcome to Jacob’s journey!

A few weeks ago, on May 3, we hit a milestone which at some stages of our journey we were afraid we would never reach - Jacob’s 1st birthday.
But our Jacob is a fighter, he is defying the odds every day of his life and brings so much joy to his family. So far unfortunately Jacob has spent most of his young life in Alder Hey hospital due to the severity of his illness.
When Jacob was 2 weeks old he underwent the so called Norwood palliative surgery to help him stay alive. During the operation he unfortunately incurred a lot of problems and his operation ended up taking 20 hours.
He came out of surgery on an ECMO machine and fought a hard battle trying to stay alive. During the time in theatre he had to be resusciated 3 times, but he made it through as he’s a fighter!
After a few days in ITU we his family were given the devestating news that his brain was significantly damaged and that he was having seizures. There is a small part of Jacob’s brain that has not died and doctors have informed us that this part of the brain can learn to do jobs of the damaged part but to be able to do this it needs to be stimulated by things like sensory equipment.
In December 2017 Jacob underwent his 2nd surgery called Glenn. During the Glenn surgery the main vein that routes oxygen-poor blood from the upper half of Jacob’s body was connected to the pulmonary artery. This change provides a reliable source of blood flow to his lungs.
Jacob has already achieved much more than we could have dared to dream about even a few months ago. He’s an absolute fighter and our family is only complete if Jacob is around instead of being in hospital.
Right now our life is just perfect as Jacob is at home with his siblings and myself always by his side.
The next milestone we’re fighting for to reach is Jacob being able to walk on his own as otherwise he won’t become a candidate for his much needed next open heart surgery.
We thank you all for following Jacob’s journey and for your continued support. Please keep Jacob in your thoughts and prayers - it means the world for us!
Thank you xx
Steph, Jacob, Jack, Alexis and Freddie

Jacob is in Liverpool (England) and people from all over the world have been praying for him. His mother and support team write to me and follow our work in Ireland. I have great regard for them as I did with Alfie Evans and his parents. Jacob is also a little fighter.
