  • Is St. Christopher a real saint?  I only ask because a family member wants this for a Confirmation saint and seems determined but I wasn't sure if this is a real saint.

If they wanted St Pio would you object? Even though padre pio was canonized by the conciliar church...

  • Oh of course he is a real saint.   He is a famous martyr, and one of the famous Fourteen Holy Helpers. Do not be troubled at all.

St. Christopher has interceded for so many people. Why would anyone doubt? He is a splendid patron saint of travelers!
    St. Christopher, pray for us!

    Sincerely,

Yes; Saint Christopher is remembered in Roman Martyrology

Much like Saint Ursula "their commemoration was omitted from the Catholic calendar of saints for liturgical celebration when it was revised in 1969, but they have been kept in the Roman Martyrology."

  • St. Philomena too is a real saint. She is known as a 'Wonder-worker' or a saint who has worked many miracles, not every saint is given that title!

She is a holy martyr. When her bones were found miracles abounded in testimony to the Lord's love of her.

St. Jean Marie Baptiste Vianney often spoke of her miraculous help.

The sick healed, the dead restored to life.. Ask for St. Philomena's help too..

Just like St. Christopher, she is a saint that in an impious and doubting age is forgotten by those who need these saints most.

Whenever I go on a journey, I pray, "St. Christopher, St. Anthony, St. Michael, St. Raphael, pray for us!" And I have a safe journey.

Devotees of St. Philomena have a special devotion of wearing a cord for the sake of purity. A prayer goes along with it:

"Oh Saint Philomena, Virgin and Martyr, pray for us so that through your powerful intercession we may obtain that purity of spirit and heart that leads to the perfect love of God. Amen."

I read Pope Leo XIII gave 100 days indulgence for the wearers of this cord who pray this prayer with devotion and contrition.
    Sincerely,

    Shin

  • OK thanks.  I thought I heard once that it was a pious legend and that he wasn't a real person.

You have me thinking now that I should get a St Philomena's chord. I would wear it everywhere I go. I will inquire about this at my SSPX chapel.

  • My chapel is named after St. Christopher. And the Church where they hold one of the local "indult" Masses, they have a nice painting of St. Christopher carrying Jesus across the river.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • The cords are not hard to get!

I encourage you to do so!

As always when one prays for virtues one has to work at changing to embrace the graces given to  gain them. But the graces being there, one can achieve one's goals!
    Sincerely,

  • Those who removed St. Christopher were of the New Order and another very important Feast removed was 1 July, The Precious Blood.  It is "said" that it was one of the first Feast days to be removed at Vatican Council II.  That should give us a clue as to what was up New Orders scheme.

  • The NO removed a bunch of Saints just because they didn't have "enough" evidence to substantiate their lives and miracles.

This article is from 1969.  I had no idea they were downgraded that long ago.

But hey we have Saint JP2 !    :barf:

This is a real problem of the Conciliar church, as in all revolutions.  In order to build themselves up, they must tear down what came before.  Ratzinger said (though I'm not sure if he was quoting another or if this is his original thought) that "we must raze the bastions" of the Church's past.  This elimination of saints from the calendar along with the not-so-subtle suggestion that maybe they weren't actual people at all was designed--purposefully, I believe--to sew doubt about the Faith of the people in the Catholic Church.  After all, if the Church could err on a matter of the saints in such a gross manner, what else could she err on?

It is interesting that anyone doubts that Saint Christopher was a real man in history.  But I would like to note that there are many Conciliar catholics today who doubt that John the Baptist was a real man or that the Blessed Virgin Mary was a real woman and even that Jesus was a real man.  And there are others who believe these were real people, absolutely deny that Mary was a virgin or that Jesus was truly God; and one of those people is the head of the Conciliar religion's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Yes, Virginia, there really is a Saint Christopher.

  • Well, we never stopped venerating St. Christopher in the Eastern rite.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir
