  • Hello, this is my first thread.

How do traditionalists argue against Communion in the Hand, when it seems that every time you do, the "It was practiced until the 9th century" card is thrown onto the table. It's the same with every novelty since Vatican II. It seems that every single one of the novelties was "practised in the early Church".

Thanks, and God Bless this Holy Week.

    Through Jesus and Mary,

    Thomas.

  • Interestingly, I actually used the "it was used until the 9th century" card to my advantage when I posted on CAF. I said that when it was used back then, they all placed cloths over their hands. They then realized it was sacreligious and abandoned it. A neo-Cath asked me for a citation, as he did not know the Church previously used CITH.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • See Schneider's Dominus Est. It's not even a "trad" work, so to speak.

  • It is always difficult to argue against false history.

Communion in the hand virtually disappeared very early in the Church.  The claim that Communion in the hand existed as long as the ninth century is a claim made to simply "prove" any argument against it should be dismissed whereas the claim is simply accepted as true without any need to prove the claim.

There are simply too many condemnations of Communion in the hand from the first few centuries of the Church to rationally maintain that Communion in the hand continued to the ninth century; yet the claim persists because it clears the consciences of the Moderists.
