House of Loreto: Altar Replaced by Table

The altar in the famous House of Loreto in central Italy has been replaced by a table which allows to "preside" the Novus Ordo liturgy facing the pews instead of facing God, MessaInLatino.it reported on September 12.

Today, the House of Loreto is located inside the big basilica of Loreto. It is the house of the Holy Family in Nazareth where the Incarnation of Christ took place. According to the witness of the old, it was brought by angels to Loreto.

During the 1990s Cardinal Ratzinger celebrated Holy Mass several times in the House facing the Lord.

  • House of Loreto: Altar Replaced Usurped  by Table

Do the headline-writers at <gloria.tv> not understand English [#]?  Does "klasG4e"?

There's been a biiig difference in how classic furnishings of classic churches around the world have been treated by the Novus Ordo hierarchy.  Some Protestantizing clergy have ordered outright destruction of stunningly beautiful altars carved in stone or wood.  I don't recall news of any effort to preserve the art by meticulous dis(as)sembly, altho' it seems impossible that no one would've attempted such preservation somewhere.  The thought that every single one of those works of art was rudely converted into rubble or kindling makes me wish that a special place in Hell has been set aside for such clergy.

If the altar being physically "Replaced" is really what is being claimed for the House of Loreto, the photo is plain evidence that the claim is false.

Simply installing a table in front of a classic sanctuary, thus merely obstructing the view of the obviously still-standing classic altar, is certainly not "replacing" under any interpretation of English that I'd accept.  Yes, practically all readers know what role that new table will usurp in the future.

But you and <gloria.tv> shouldn't scare your readers with such misuse of English.  Ponder the shameless deCatholicization that continues to be aggressively undertaken, on many fronts, by the Argentinan in white in the Vatican.

    -------
Note #: "replaced by a table which allows to ‘preside’ the Novus Ordo liturgy"?  That grammar is surely not what would be expected from a literate native speaker of English.  Really, now!  The vowel of a subordinate clause taking as its object an infinitive which seems to take a noun-phrase object (Bzzz! ambiguous parse)?

  • Well, I for one think it's better than that they celebrate their Protestant meal on a holy consecrated altar.

Actually, I do; espanol as well which I'm fluent in.  I just did a quick copy and paste.  Sorry for the grammatical headache.

  • .
This is the fulfillment of prophesy: the abomination of desolation, standing in the holy place.
    .
There is one other similar shrine, the place where St Peter was crucified upside-down, the Tempietto.
    .
The place is marked by a very small chapel that has only room for the celebrant and his acolytes inside.
    .
So there isn't room to put in a backwards altar.
    .

    .
The Tempietto in the courtyard of San Pietro in Montorio, Rome, Italy, is considered the world's finest example of High Renaissance Italian Architecture. As such, it's unlikely anyone would be able to remodel it, that is, one would hope.

They shouldn't be conducting their abominable Novus Ordo desolation anywhere within the walls in the first place.

The person who wrote that article obviously has never been to the House of Loreto, I have, two times in the late 1990's, for if she had been there she would know that the House of Loreto is tiny, and pretty much square. The picture above is of the house. The house has four walls, it has the altar in the front as you see it (there was no table there when I was there) in the picture, and I did my rosary facing the altar , with my back touching the back wall and I was about 12' from the altar. The House altar is not open to the Church.  The mass in the church is offered on the other side of the wall, you do not see the house, as it is encased in marble. If a priest wanted to offer the mass inside, and he faced the altar, maybe 8 people could attend, but they'd be practically on top of him and the altar server. Now, if you add that table, I doubt anyone would fit but the priest.
