  • The NO has corrupted many of these groups.
May God bless you and keep you

  • I hope someone answers about the Holy Name.  What I would like to see is the Sacred Heart Society.  Correct me if I am wrong, but it was to my understanding, that the group of members were addicts to liquor and gambling I don't recall, but if not it should have been.  the rules were to get as much of the sacraments as possible.  Penance often as well as MASS/Holy Eucharist.  It is the powers of the Most Precious Blood, that helps us to say No, to carry Our Cross.

Our son was in gambling and he wanted out forever!  He went to ALNON.  My son was nervous because he was told that to get through it, he had to come to every weekly meeting.  He is a truck driver.  I had a long talk with my son.  I told him that from my readings, 10 maybe 15% are cured of their addiction and that sounds so sad, BUT, I would like to say the 10- 15% were Catholics receiving the sacraments.  I explained the powers.  I explained how these secular groups have no powers.

Our son is relaxed and does as he was moved to do, go for the Precious Blood,  That was 10 years ago!  So, this is what the New Order has none of.  NEw Order is Marxist.  They want no honor and glory of the Blood.  They want their people to forget of such notions!

Look at DARE a program in school for children to Just Say No to Drugs.  After 10 years, it was reported that there was nothing to report on.  Nothing!  Of course not. Yet, they could say that Drug use continued.  There you go!  The enemy knows that they get money for showing drugs to the children, teasing and then walking away!  Gave the children no solution.

  • There are many confraternities and groups like the Holy Name Society.  The Holy Name Society is prevalent in the U.S. because of the Dominican order.  It is under the care of the Dominican order.  In Latin America, for instance, there are more of the Jesuit based groups like "Sodality of Our Lady" because the Jesuits came.

I always liked the Holy Name Society.  There was a chapter at the chapel I attended in the U.S.

There is a wiki page which should at least serve to satisfy your curiosities, if not lead you to other sources.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_the_Holy_Name
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

  • My father, who would have been 99 if still living on this earth, was a faithful member of the Holy Name Society up until it no longer existed in our parish, or until he left the parish church, never to return, having found the true Mass was celebrated by Fr Fox (I believe). He and other faithful men wore a special badge with honour - it is the Dominican coat of arms - and attended the 7am Mass once a month as a group.

You can read about it here: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07420b.htm

Similarly for my mother: she was a member of the Sacred Heart Sodality, which was a group of like-minded women who also attended the 7am Mass sitting together in the front pews on another Sunday of each month.

For primary school girls who had received their first Holy Communion, we had "Holy Angels" who wore a red cape and a veil, while older  girls progressed to the Children of Mary, who wore a blue cape (I still have mine) and a veil. We dressed at home and walked to church dressed in our capes and veils and must have been a great witness to protestants and the unchurched.

The boys did not have an organised group as they were well catered for as altar servers.

As regards the problem of excessive alcohol consumption there is this:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_Total_Abstinence_Association
It  encourages devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as an aid to resisting the temptation of alcohol.

I had a wonderful uncle who belonged to this, or a similar organisation. He was what Mum called a teetotaler.

  • I think the Holy Name Society had as an apostolate the prevention of swearing and foul language. For my own sake, I wish there was HNS where I live.

Yes, but that is the secondary object. The primary object of the society is to beget due love and reverence for the Holy Name of God and Jesus Christ, according to the link I posted: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07420b.htm

Thanks. I've now looked at at both links. Talking about teetotalers, my wife and I took the pledge in 1987.

    HOLY NAME PLEDGE

    Blessed be God,/
the Father, Son and Holy Ghost!
    I profess publicly/
my belief that Our Lord Jesus Christ/
    is the Son of God,/
made man for the salvation of mankind.
    I recognize His divine authority,/
and believe that all power on earth,/
    civil and religious,/
    comes from Him.
    All lawfully constituted authority/
I respect and promise to obey.
    May the God of Justice/
guide the minds and uphold the hands/
of those vested with its power.
May the God of Might break asunder/
the bonds of those met together/
    against the Lord/
    and against His Christ.
In honor of His divine Name,/
    I pledge myself/
    against perjury, blasphemy,/
    profanity and obscene speech.
Praised be the Name of God,/
and blessed be the name of His divine Son,/
    now and forever.
