Help: How Do I Pray The Rosary?
« on: February 08, 2026, 09:31:57 PM »
I'm a brand new Catholic, 17, first Catholic in my family. How do I actually pray the rosary? Without the Pope John Paul II nonsense, and all other nonsense.

I want to honor the wishes of Our Lady.

Very much appreciated.

Welcome aboard. Are you doing the First Five Saturday Devotion as well?

At Fatima, as you may already know, Our Lady told the children to "say a third of the rosary every day." So those are the Glorious, Joyful and Sorrowful mysteries (each having five decades a piece).  It shouldn't be too hard to find online but it might be a bit more than I can explain in a quick thread. Maybe try a search for 'traditional rosary' or something.  Again, welcome aboard.

We are called to pray 5 decades of the Rosary daily by Our Lady of Fatima.
There are great brochure guides sold by PrayLatin.com, that several traditional priests I know have given their approval/endorsement to.

1) Interiorly/vocally recite your intentions you wish to offer up with praying your Rosary that day. Kiss your Crucifix, and then make the sign of the Cross with your Rosary.
2) Recite the Apostles' Creed followed by an Our Father, then Three Hail Mary's (which I prefer to recite through an Angelus, but most people just recite them with stating the intentions of Faith, Hope, and Charity), then a Gloria (Glory Be).
3) Recite your first decade's mystery (Joyful on Mondays and Thursdays, Sorrowful on Tuesdays and Fridays, Glorious on Wednesdays and Saturdays) followed by an Our Father. On Sundays from the 1st Sunday of Advent until Candlemas are Joyful, after Candlemas until Holy Saturday are Sorrowful, from Easter Sunday until the Last Sunday after Pentecost are Glorious.
4) Ten Hail Mary's followed by a Glory Be. Then repeat steps (3) and (4) again for the remaining four decades.
5) After the 5th decade is complete, recite the Salve Regina prayer, concluding prayer of Rosary, and then the Saint Michael prayer (short form). Here, it is also customary to recite the "Requiem" followed by the "Fidelium Animae" prayers if your intentions include the Souls in Purgatory.
6) Afterward, it is traditional to then thrice recite "Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us" followed then by the St. Joseph prayer.

I heard that listening to Fr. Hesse the other day.

I will have to drive an hour to go to SSPX, and my car needs an axel alignment, but I will do it.

Are there any particular instructions about that?

No, I couldn't find anything for "traditional rosary" or "rosary" that smelled legitimate. It seems google is cracking down big time on traditional Catholic information. Try looking up "Bishop Williamson" on google.
