Help Finding Wedding Dress

  • Hi Everyone. I am having a hard time finding a wedding dress. There's only one bridal boutique in my area that carries dresses with sleeves and unfortunately their prices start at $2500. I'm trying to stay under $1000. Please let me know if you are aware of any dresses that are both beautiful and appropriate for a Catholic wedding. I'm also fairly small (size 0/2), so that adds another layer of challenges in finding a dress. I really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks so much!

  • You might be able to find cheaper dresses with sleeves at thrift stores.  Check out clearance racks.

May God bless you and keep you

  • Those are quite pretty. I would only wonder what the back looks like.  Typically, there is an open back.

OP: Another option could be to find a jacket/bolero to wear over a sleeveless dress.  This is what I ended up doing.  I found a lace one on ebay. Of course, that was over 15 years ago.

  • Have you tried buying it from someone else used? Maybe someone in your parish can rent out their dress?

  • This is the site is similar to where I got my wedding dress several years ago:

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006463981024.html

Obviously you will still have to look through the options a bit to find one that suits you but they have many dresses with sleeves high necklines and satin (not see-through) for about $100 or a little more or less.

    Hope this helps!

  • I've also seen brides who bought a sleeveless dress & had a good seamstress add sleeves, or similar modifications.

  • I know you said you wanted to stay under $1000 but I just want to mention that my daughter married two years ago and she is your size. She went with Elizabeth Cooper Design out of Utah.

They are beautiful modest made-to-order wedding dresses. She gave a date earlier than her wedding date to have it in hand and waiting and went with a chantilly lace gown. It was well worth it.

I hope you find what you’re looking for.

  • I'm sure my wife will chime in eventually in this thread.

She got a used dress pretty cheap but it needed sleeves. So, the Mormons to the rescue!

Notice that site "Elizabeth Cooper Design out of Utah". That "Utah" isn't a coincidence. I'll bet you a chocolate chip cookie she's a Mormon.

For us though, we just needed an accessory to make the dress modest. Some online site had "temple-ready" dresses and accessories. She bought some kind of top with sleeves to go under the dress, which matched the wedding dress perfectly and made the whole thing perfectly modest. We still have the dress actually. Taking up a lot of space in our humble closet. She's hoping to pass it on to one of our daughters.

Google "temple ready". It's not like you have to actually use it in a Mormon temple. You're perfectly free to have your wedding elsewhere...hahaha
