Title: HELP! Srupulosity
Post by: Padre_Pro on February 11, 2007, 05:36:37 PM
Lately I have been suffering the worst case of scrupulosity.  All of my sins have been seeming mortal to me, I constantly remember sins in the past that I may have confessed already, which i feel compelled to confess again, and today I went to confession and I am now worried about the validity because I said it in a hurry because Mass was about to start.  I know that the confession was valid because I didn't purposefully leave anything out, I said the penance, and did my best to have contrition.  Can anybody please give me some advice to getting over this scrupulosity and prayers are always appreciated.

I would discuss it with your priest at the next available opportunity.

The best solution for scrupulosity (as expressed by the saints) is:
obedience to one's confessor.

It's the only way out -- since the scrupulous mind is always in doubt. Your confessor will tell you which sins you can confess, etc.

Trust and obedience to one's confessor is the solution for scrupulosity. Of course, until it passes it helps to have recourse to fervent prayer. Tell Our Lord that you would rather die than offend him mortally, etc.

I will keep you in my prayers.

In Christ,
