  • Prayer to St. Monica

Exemplary Mother of the great Augustine,
you perseveringly pursued your wayward son
    not with wild threats
but with prayerful cries to heaven.
Intercede for all mothers in our day
so that they may learn to draw their children to God.
Teach them how to remain close to their children,
even the prodigal sons and daughters
    who have sadly gone astray.

    HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • Its mothers day? What bitterness this evokes in me...

My biological mother tries to drag me to hell,
with lies and subversion and deciet,
but my spiritual mother tells me to forget her,
and calls me to heaven with truth and virtue.

Begone earthly mother, and tempt me no more.
God protects me from you, thou scourge of Christians.
When thou shalt burn, remember that thou hast finally gained the reward you sought all your life from your master.

St Michael defend me from my family.
    AMEN

  • I downvoted you, soulguard, because this is neither the time nor the place for complaining about our mothers.

The Collect of the First Solemn Mass of Easter Sunday:

O God, Who dost illuminate this most holy night by the glory of the Lord's Resurrection, preserve in the new children of Thy family the spirit of adoption which Thou hast given; that renewed in body and mind, they may render to Thee a pure service.

As baptized souls, we're adopted.  Our eternal mother is the Virgin Mary, as long as we're in the Mystical Body, which is to say, in her Son.  She loves us as she loves her Son, as long as she sees her Son in us.  So what reason can we have to be bitter?

The very least we can say about our earthly mothers on Mother's Day is that she carried us and allowed us to be born.  We can at the very least be grateful for that.
What return shall I make to the Lord for all the things that He hath given unto me?

  • Mothers who could not or chose not to do their duty result in great pain for their children. I don't agree with you, we should not owe gratitude to our mother for not murdering us and we don't have obligation to keep silent about parental abuse.
Your post reminds me of the nonsense on pro-life sites praising promiscuous women who didn't murder their children or those who murdered two children then quit.

  • My point is that we should be grateful for the good things our mothers did for us.

  • I agree this thread isn't the place for it. I just saw this was the sacred prayer liturgy forum.

  • Are we commanded to honor our fathers and mothers, or not?  If we can't bring ourselves to be grateful for something they did for us, can't we at the very least be quiet and suffer alone, faithful that God's justice will be done and we'll be rewarded for our patient sufferings?

'forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us'

Do we just get these words over with when we say them, or do we mean them?  If we mean them, and we continually find fault with others, are we not bringing down a curse on ourselves?
What return shall I make to the Lord for all the things that He hath given unto me?

  • Please keep this thread clean from bitterness!

It is supossed to be a positive thread for those who cherish their mothers and for the mothers themselves to feel appreciation on their day.

There may be other threads more appropiate for discussing personal resentments.

My mother is in the Novus Ordo, so she needs my prayers. Is your mother truly a satanist? Or does she just belong to one of the many false religions?
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

Offer your suffering to Our Immaculate Queen, TG, in honor and thanksgiving.  And watch how she intercedes for you.

and pray for the "corporate bastards".  There is no one else to pray for their sorry souls.
