May God almighty, by the patronage and tutelage of the glorious Apostles Saints Peter and Paul, with the Blessed Virgin Mary intervening, vouchsafe Holy Mother Church the liberty and exaltation that becomes such an immaculate Spouse of the only-begotten Son of the Eternal Father and whose custody was commended by the same Lord unto Saint Peter and his successors.

May the faithful who adhere to the one, holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church be coadunated in the unity of the confession and profession of the sacred faith, and may all the enemies and adversaries who seek the destruction of this same faith be humbled and converted, or vanquished and annihilated, by the intercession of the same glorious Apostles whose blood consecrated Rome and whose prayers will restore the Eternal City to her former glory.

  • Here is a commentary upon the ancient rites wherewith the Romans honored the Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul, taken from the late Cardinal Schuster's The Sacramentary (Liber Sacramentorum): Historical and Liturgical Notes on the Roman Missal (vol. IV, trans. Arthur Levelis-Marke; New York: Benziger Brothers, 1929).
