  • Happy Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi!

In the Churches of the Capuchin Friars Minor there was a solemn commemoration of the transit of St. Francis as seen in these pages taken from the small tome Franciscan Prayer Book and Tertiary Manual (Pantasaph, Holywell, N. Wales: Franciscan Friary, 1953)

The old tradition mentioned appears to be true because St. Francis has granted me whatsoever I have asked following this annual exercise of devotion.

  • From the Franciscan Supplement to the Daily Missal: Containing Those Parts Proper to the Roman-Seraphic Missal, (Paterson, NJ: St. Anthony Guild Press, 1950), here is the Proper Mass of St. Francis as found in the Roman-Seraphic Missal. Note the Sequence and Proper Preface of St. Francis.

  • Rev. Fr. Aquinas Byrnes in his book Hymns of the Dominican Missal and Breviary, (St. Louis, MO: B. Herder Book Co., 1943), translates and comments upon the Hymns proper to the Office of St. Francis, together with the Sequence proper to St. Francis, which are shared by the liturgical books of the Franciscan and Dominicans. These two Orders each commemorated both Solemnities of their respective Father Founders by reason of the great friendship that St. Dominic and St. Francis shared.

The beautiful commentary constitutes an admirable hagiographical report of the life of St. Francis, and also gives us a glimpse of the treasures of the Christian poetry that the Holy Ghost stirred up in our Medieval forefathers.

  • Pax et bonum!

I have a Tertiaries' Manual from the '40s that is in like-new condition; I paid fifty cents for it at a rummage sale. It is one of my most cherished possessions.

Encountering the life of St. Francis of Assisi literally changed my life, and through all of the ups and downs, through my time as a Protestant 'minister', even through times when I wanted nothing to do with church or religion, Francis was there, his humility and utter devotion to Our Lord made it impossible for me to believe that it wasn't possible to love God in this world.

It's a real shame that the Novus Ordo has tried to re-imagine Francis as some ecuмenical tree-hugging New Age mystic; those who are so profaning God's churches these days would be shocked to know that Francis would have accepted NONE of the indifferentism and especially none of the corruption he would see in their ranks if he were here today.

St. Francis of Assisi, lover of Christ in the poor, pray for us.

St. Anthony, hammer of heretics, terror of Hell, pray for us.

St. Bonaventure, Seraphic Doctor, pray for us.

St. Clare of Assisi, handmaiden of the poor Christ, pray for us.

We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee, because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world.
This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat [the Papacy] is now openly proposed as a rewar

  • I volunteer with an animal rescue, and we received a call from an animal shelter about an animal of the type that our rescue helps, and they asked us if we could take her in. She is old, unadoptable, and I will be adopting her myself!

When we figured out which day we could get there (its some distance away), we realized it is later on today, which just happens to be the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi! Because of that I plan to name her Francesca. :)

    .

No he wouldn't. It makes me sick that they picked Assisi to be the town to hold the syncristic prayer meetings. The Holy Saint Francis went to the Middle East to try to convert muslims for Heavens sake!

I think it's "Sancte Francisce," since it is the vocative case that Baskerville would use in his prayerful plea to St. Francis. You have given the nominative case.

  • From the tome Franciscan Prayer Book and Tertiary Manual, (Pantasaph, Holywell, N. Wales: Franciscan Friary, 1953), here are some prayers composed by the Seraphic Patriarch St. Francis, including the celebrated Canticle of the Sun.

  • Here is also the meditation of St. Francis upon the Lord's Prayer, the Pater noster, taken from the above-mentioned tome.
