Oh how beautiful are the Masses for the Ember Days, and the fast and partial abstinence [complete abstinence on Ember Friday] make the texts all the more edifying!

Anyways, I am hereby attaching a commentary for the Mass of Ember Wednesday, taken from the monumental work The Sacramentary (Liber Sacramentorum): Historical and Liturgical Notes on the Roman Missal (vol. III, trans. Arthur Levelis-Marke; New York: Benziger Brothers, 1927), authored by Dom Ildefonso Schuster, O. S. B., then Abbot of the Monastery of St. Paul 's Without the Walls, and later Cardinal Patriarch of Milan.

[Afterwards Archbishop Montini succeeded him in the Patriarchal see... :sad:]
