I don't think they are Trad, but they must still have the Faith. Just listen to any of the lyrics and you can see they strongly believe in the Real Presence.

The lyrics are Catholic, the melody is good, and the harmonies are beautiful. And as a Catholic hymn, it's even in a Latin-like language. What's not to like? :)

I know it has guitar accompaniment and is in Spanish, so it can't be used liturgically, but it certainly has a place on my PC, etc.

Well a translation of the hymn is:

Give honor to the Lord ,
all of his people praise Him ;
sing all of His glory ,
our God is here.

Majestic is your presence ,

I didn't have time to add: The "Rendid honor a Jesus" Hymn is also widely used in the spanish-speaking NO masses, and sometimes sung in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

I should add:

I think the hymn "Rendid honor al Senor" has an added profession of faith when sung in the context of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Saying "Our God is here" in the context of "when there are 2 or 3 gathered, there am I in the midst of them" (which is abused in the Novus Ordo) would be typical Novus Ordo, wishy washy and weak.

But when you know that this hymn was put on a CD of hymns for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, it takes on a more "solid" air; a declaration of belief in the Real Presence.

Question -- is there anything objectively wrong with using a hymn like this in a Spanish-speaking country, the way we Anglophones use "Holy God We Praise Thy Name" as a recessional after Benediction? That's a very German-American hymn.

But what if the people in question are not even close to German? Do you still have to use it? Is it OK to use local vernacular sacred hymns for things like the Processional/Recessional?

My understanding is that sacred music or hymns must have certain traits -- I'm not sure what those are offhand. I'm sure they're listed somewhere. And I know that certain instruments for accompaniment (organ, violin) are approved, while others are not.

I do know that hymns in other languages used to be allowed -- I remember Fr. Wolfgang Goettler wanted me to transfer a tape of German hymns to CD for him.
