  • Once in a so-called orthodox church, I asked some old women about baptism. They said that they do it by oil. But we know that only water baptism is acceptable! I still wonder about their answer. Perhaps their persian were bad (they were armenians) and they confused Taamid (baptism) with Taayid (confirmation)?
However there is an other possibilty: is there any sect that believes in baptism by oil?

  • No. I think that some might anoint the infant with oil though.

  • Oh, and in Orthodox churches, baptism/first holy communion/confirmation are all in the same ritual.

  • THEIR FORMULA IS:let this servant of God be baptized (in my hands) in the name of the Father etc.
They may add vingar to the baptismal water.
I think the answer of that old women about baptism by oil, was just a misunderstanding of my question.
