What is the proper interpretation of the two creation accounts in the Book of Genesis?

In general, the first creation story seems to cover the creation of everything. In chapter 2, we get the specifics on how man was created and then woman.

Actually, I don't see it as 2 creation stories. More like a widesweeping general story followed by a more specific version for the most important of creatures on earth. Or in other words, those who could actually read the story.

The two Genesis accounts theory which is tied to the JPED theory is the result of modernist biblical criticism meant to undermine scripture and the faith. There are not two accounts, rather one goes into more specific detail than the other.

I did not realize this concept was tied to JPED. But this makes sense as the leader of a Bible Study that I partake in always talks about the two creation accounts and goes on about the different editors and how that explains repetition in Holy Scripture.

I never like hearing about this JPED stuff and try to tune out as you are correct, it is a potential underminer of faith. Never heard of it until I joined that Bible Study.

Thank you for the replies and the links. I was just having difficulty thinking of how to explain it if there were indeed two contradictory creation accounts.
