  • Recently, I recommended to another forum member the devotion to the Miraculous Infant Jesus of Prague, and he has written to me stating that he had been perceiving a positive effect so far.

I would like to share more information regarding this devotion from the little rare book Carmelite Devotions and Prayers for Special Feasts of the Liturgical Year, compiled by a Carmelite Tertiary (Milwaukee, WI: The Bruce Publishing Company, 1956).

    Post script:

Please pray to the Miraculous Infant Jesus of Prague for me, as I am presently facing certain great vexations. Thank you so much! May the Infant Jesus reward your charity!

Please ignore all that I have written regarding sedevacantism.

  • Here is the Litany of the Miraculous Infant Jesus of Prague from the book Kyrie Eleison: Two Hundred Litanies with Historico-Liturgical Introduction and Notes by Rev. Fr. Benjamin Francis Musser, O.F.M. (Westminster, MD: The Newman Bookshop, 1944).

  • Very nice posts Hobble. As a Filipino (50%), I am familiar with Santo Niño. I was impressed that in  1978, the Catholic Mayor of San Francisco George Moscone (R.I.P.) had this declared

    Quote from: Mayor Moscone, 1978

WHEREAS, the Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu imparts to every Filipino renewed sense of the values of the traditional Filipino traits of piety, friendship and hospitality, and devotion to the Santo Nino is a means of inspiring the highest values in upholding the sacred heritage of Philippine culture; and
WHEREAS, This yearly event is a festive, significant, celebrated and hallowed tradition, which is deeply woven into the very fabric of the history of Cebu; and
WHEREAS, This fiesta provides a unique and pleasurable opportunity for all San Franciscans to learn about and better appreciate the outstanding contributions made to the City and County of San Francisco by our citizens of Filipino descent; and
WHEREAS, During the First decade of its existence the Filipino Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu, through the tireless efforts of its Founder, President Emeritus and World Emissary, Commissioner Sally B. Famarin, has brought national distinction to Filipino-Americans and has established an example for others to emulate; and
WHEREAS, The Cebu Association of California, Inc., is dedicated to serve Santo Nino for peace and the dignity of man, and fosters the Spirit of respect and understanding which exists between the peoples of the Philippine Islands and the United States; and
    WHEREAS, The Association will again observe the Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu in San Francisco next year, and plans to do so every year thereafter;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, George Moscone, Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco, do hereby proclaim the period of January 12 through 20 1979, as the FIESTA OF THE SANTO NINO DE CEBU WEEK in San Francisco, and do urge all our citizens to participate with their Filipino-American friends and neighbors in observing the events of the Fiesta.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City and County of San Francisco to be affixed this twenty-nineteen hundred and seventy-eight.

I just thought of this question for you and anyone who may know.  Santo Niño's feast day falls on the Thursday after the Epiphany. To have a Mass said for His feast day, which propers would we use? Would it be the Holy Infant of Praque propers, or does Santo Niño have his own propers that were used in the Philippines and elsewhere before the revolution?

  • I would have to consult my library for a more intelligent reply, but from the top of my head, I can tell you (if memory serves right):

    1) I have never encountered any Proper Mass or Office of the Holy Infant Jesus. The Flight into Egypt and the Finding in the Temple had their proper Masses and Offices at one time (and perhaps they still do in some localities).

    2) If I am not mistaken, the Feast of the Holy Name was traditionally regarded as the Feast of the Miraculous Infant Jesus of Prague, and the Franciscans, who are great propagators of this devotion, do not appear to have a Proper Mass for the Holy Infant, though they do have a proper Sequence for the Feast of the Holy Name.

    3) I am unaware of any proper Masses or Offices in Latin American and the Philippines, where the Holy Infant Jesus was honored under various titles in numerous dioceses and localities.

    4) If you would have a Mass said in honor of the Holy Infant at a traditional Chapel, it would be the Votive Mass of the Holy Name, since the Masses of Christmas and Epiphany cannot be said as Votive Masses.

I will have to research for further information.
