  • Father Theilen has had 2 strokes.  10% chance of survival and then he had another stroke.  Bishop McGuire is standing by.

If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?

  • Dear all, I just received word that Fr James Thielen, ordained by Bishop Carmona, just died.

May his priestly soul rest in peace.

Joe, was Father affiliated with the CMRI?  I thought I read somewhere that he was an "independent" priest, but I see he was ordained by Bishop Carmona....?

  • He was an independent priest.  However, I believe he had a relationship of some kind with the CMRI as Fr. Le at St. Therese (CMRI) in Lebanon, Ohio told us of a change in Mass schedule last Sunday because he was covering for Father Theilin in Columbus.  From what has been said on this topic, perhaps he had a relationship with SGG as well.

Fr joined CMRI in 1970 after his military service.  He was for a short while with a religious congregation at the end of Vatican Ii.
Having learned of this community adhering to the PreV2 beliefs, he moved to Idaho, became a brother, went through the cult phase, stayed with them after the ouster, and taught and aided as a brother until his ordination  in April, 1991. Bp Pivarunas was consecrated later that September.
Towards the mid 90s or so, he separated and went on his own, eventually back in Ohio, his home state.  He would help out with St Gertrude's in Cincinnati as asked.
He was on good terms with Bp McKenna, O.P. and other faithful clergy.
Known for his devotion to the sick, he helped out at various Mass Centers, such as the CMRI mission in the Boston area, on occasion.  For decade plus he has had the Columbus Mass Center.
     He will be missed.
May his soul rest in peace.

  • This seems to be the funeral home caring for Father Thielen https://www.muellerfunerals.com/obituaries/fr-james-thielen .

The obituary and service information haven't been posted yet but this would be a link to check for those.
