Author Topic: First time attending independent parish this weekend... (Read 1142 times)

I've slowly been making my way towards an independent chapel here in the northern Virginia area. In other words, I stopped going to the NO Mass and started with diocesan TLM's. But now I want to check out this independent chapel (St. Athanasius).

Any advice on what to expect, or what I should do to prepare. I'm also a new Catholic (baptized and confirmed last year) so no kind of information you give me will be too "newbish." I'm basically wondering if I should call ahead and talk to the priest, or should I just show up and try to blend? I'm sure I'm going to be sticking out like a sore thumb because I still have to follow others when it comes to standing, sitting, kneeling etc.

It might be a very good idea to call and talk to the priest. I'm sure he will ask you a few questions. You don't indicate whether you are a male or female, but in either case, appropriate dress is key.

I'm sure you will love it there...it's a different world from the novus ordo.

geta good Missal, study a little ahead of time and talk to the priest about how to follow it and then observe your irst time, dont get frustrated if you cannot follow and know eerything first time.....it takes time......

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm a guy and plan on wearing a suit even though it will be hot and humid. Last thing I want is to be turned away because of my attire.

And I have three missals: Angelus, Baronius, and Fr. Lasance. I really like the Fr. Lasance and will probably taking that one with me.

(frankly I don't know why more men don't wear seersucker - maybe it's hard to find these days?)

I have a seersucker skirt I picked up in a thrift shop many years ago. Easy to care for and cool as anything on those stifling hot days. :cool:
