  • Does anyone recognize the Saint depicted in the attached photo?

Sorry, I have no additional information about her.

  • If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?

  • Is she supposed to be black? Or is that just the lighting?

Nor it is the statue, which could represent St Monica. Just a guess though. It’s beautiful. Is that a second hand shop, Incred?

  • It is very difficult to make out, but I think it may be one of the two entirely conjectural possibilities below:

    1. Matrona Nikonova (not a Saint)
    2. Anaisa Pye (not a Saint) - more likely of the two.

I beg you, O Lord, remember not the sins of my youth, the faults of ignorance, but in your mercy keep me in mind in the brightness of your glory.

St. Monica was going to be my first guess

    1. Matrona Nikonova is a "saint" of the Orthodox and I don't think the orthodox have statues
    2. Anaisa Pye depicted wearing green and holding the hand of a small girl. She meant to be St Anne. so I don't think either is feasible.

She is carrying a cross so could she be St Helena? Helena was Greek but her birthplace is unknown. St Ambrose called her  a bona stabularia, a "good stable-maid". (WIKI)

I think I do, St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk. You can read about her in the Catholic Encyclopedia.

  • Wow.. thanks for all your inputs!

At least it gives us some direction and ideas to search for.

  • St. Rose of Lima who was a contemporary and close friend of the mulatto St. Martin de Porres.  Both of them were Third Order Dominicans and apparently the color of the garment for Third Order Dominicans at that time was a dark green, at least according to a good number of the images seen of them and many images of St. Rose of Lima have her holding the crucifix.  (I hope the beautiful statue did not originate with Santeria!)

  • Isn’t the writing on the sides Old Church Slavonic?  Could she be Ukrainian Catholic?  The picture an icon?

Why presume the image depicts a Saint?  Is it a photo of an actual statue?  Sorry, but hard to tell on my end.  Thank you.
