Happy Feast of St Mark the Evangelist!
Special Vespers Hymn , St. Ambrose?
I was reading this today and the Angelus '62 Missal has this for the very first line of the Hymn:
"...When Christ, by his own servants slain, Had died upon etc..."
I wondered about that verse: by his own servants slain... really?! Latin Chant attached below.
The verse in Latin is: Servi necarant impii. Google Translate produces this, more or less:
1. The Apostles were sad,
The bitter funeral of Christ,
Cruelest death -
Impious slaves had killed .2. True Speech of the Angel
He foretold to the women:
Soon, Christ, his mouth will
Bring joy to flock of faithful.
3. To the worried Apostles
The messengers are running,
These meet the radiant Christ.
They hold his feet.
4. Galilee at high peaks,
Apostles they are gathered,
Look! Jesus, gives overjoys,
are blessed with inebriating light.
5. That you may be with
Paschal Jesus' enduring joy,
From dreadful death of crimes
Deliver us, reborn to life.
6 God the Father may glory be,
and to the Son, from death resurrected,
And to the Paraclete, in all ages of ages.
Amen.

I changed a few words around, so it could be better understood. Catholic Church has many treasures. Deo gratias+
The latin word ''Famulus'' means servant.
