Feast of St. Joseph on Friday in Lent

    • This year the feast of St. Joseph falls on a Friday in Lent.

    Do those who follow the fasting rules of the Roman rite fast or abstain from meat on this day?

    • I will not be eating meat. My SSPX calendar says to not eat meat. But it acknowledges that the Novus Ordo says it is OK to eat meat so they say it is not a mortal sin.

    What does it say about fasting?  I think it takes a lot to wipe out the abstinence ... like a Holy Day of obligation, but not sure about the fast.  I used to know all this but I’m getting old.

    Traditional day of fast, not obligatory because of the Novus Ordo. My SSPX calendar tells you the traditional rules ans implies you should follow the traditional rules, but then says it is no longer obligatory because the Novus Ordo has the authority to change the rules.

    • Fast and abstinence.  Move the feast day to Sunday.

    ( They  move other important Holy Days to Sunday or May 1st.)  There are traditional chapel having Ash Wednesday in Sunday.

    • Fasting is par for the course for me because of my medical condition. A simple meal of fish and chips is my table fare even though this is one of my high feast days by virtue of given names at baptism.

    Easter comes soon enough and there will be plenty of time to feast then. :cowboy:
