    • What are your thoughts on praying the rosary sitting down?

    • I have no issues with that whatsoever.  I don't force my kids to kneel during family rosary because I don't want it to be an unpleasant experience for them, one which they might come to resent.  Plus, if you tend to limit kneeling to church where the Blessed Sacrament is reserved, it actually highlights the Real Presence more than if you kneel in all kinds of places.

    • Thank you sir. We were doing our rosary sitting for a while. When this past lent came around I asked everyone (except our two youngest) to kneel for the season. After lent I tried to keep it going but it seemed to (as you say) make it a bit more of a unpleasant experience and discouraging. So we've gone back to sitting. I've felt conflicted because I've heard sermons of priests stating that the family should say their rosary kneeling. My rationale (for my own peace of mind) is that, for the time being, getting our family saying our rosary - in any position- is what's more important, as I've been pretty bad over the years remaining consistant in our family prayer life.

    • We always knelt and faced East, since the children were old enough to do the Rosary, around 5.

    • I have a niece with 6 children and they say a rosary as they are preparing a meal.  I said rosary with them when taking a walk.  However you can, Our Lady will approve.

    • Kneeling is mmore reverent than sitting, however, the posture is secondary to devotion.  None of my family kneels because we all three are seniors with arthritic knees.  Mom in particular can't kneel.  She might get down, but she can't get back up!

    • I have my family kneeling. We are all more than capable of getting down and back up. We do use our pillows however to take some of the discomfort (and injury) out of it. 
    We are even thinking of getting something like what you use in Mass, but on a tighter budget that is a luxury item. 
    I think that having some of the discomfort while praying can be an important thing. You learn to focus on the prayer, and looking to the Holy Ghost while learning to overcome what your mortal body is feeling, stressing the importance of faith over any discomfort.

    • Yes, it is good to kneel, unless we are impeded by health or other reasons. Family Rosary with everyone who can kneeling is just wonderful and will obtain many priceless graces for all the family members and each individually. Single folk and those in consecrated life would do well to imitate St. Pio and strive to begin to say many Rosaries every day. We ought every day to pray at least 5 decades morning and night on our knees. Our Lady promised an exceptional indulgence to those who faithfully follow this every day,

    "Our Lady also said to Blessed Alan: "I want you to know that, although there are numerous indulgences already attached to the recitation of my Rosary, I shall add many more to every fifty Hail Marys (each group of five decades) for those who say them devoutly, on their knees----being, of course, free from mortal sin. And whosoever shall persevere in the devotion of the Holy Rosary, saying these prayers and meditations, shall be rewarded for it; I shall obtain for him full remission of the penalty and of the guilt of all his sins at the end of his life.     • My wife told me that I could pray the rosary while I am driving. As this is what I do for a living (tractor/trailer) and I take this responsibility seriously I told her I didn’t think that was a good idea because it could be distracting. 
    I just started back to work last Friday, from suspension pending investigation, and found myself very desirous to pray the rosary. So I did. At work. Behind the wheel. In rush hour traffic. And I didn’t stop at 5 decades but continued until I lost count and had to get out of my truck. 
    Amazingly I was not distracted at all. 
    Is this alright that I pray the rosary while actively driving? And does it lessen any graces or indulgences (or whatever the word is I am missing)? Do you have any suggestions on this?

    • An old Jesuit priest told me this story.

    Once a priest asked his superior if it was OK to pray while he smoked a cigarette.  So the superior responded, of course, we are to pray always.  Then later he asked the question of another priest, is it OK to smoke while praying, and then the response was that, no, that would be irreverent.

    If you sense the call to pray the Rosary, do not hesitate say as many as you can fit into your day. In a lifetime they will add up to much needed grace for you and your family. 

    During the apparition at Fatima, Mary told Lucia that in order for Francisco to go to Heaven he would need to say many Rosaries. Afterwards he was never seen without his Rosary in his hand. He prayed them all day. Even while he was working in the fields with the sheep. 
    I have read many things about this little Saint and one thing is that he was known to be very sweet, with a calm and agreeable nature, only a little mischievous with other children at times.  

    If only the sins of a sweet little child are in need of so many Rosaries, how many more for my 40+ years will I need to pray? I shudder to think.

    • I love praying the Rosary ... except in the car.  For some reason it's always bothered me to say it in the car (in particular while driving) ... perhaps because I often find myself muttering the words without actually contemplating the mysteries.

    I have the same thoughts, however, I gave up listening to the radio years ago and sometimes it’s too quiet in the car, so I’ll say the Rosary, which I feel is better than nothing. 
    I have thought of purchasing a few Gregorian Chant Cd’s, but just have not sprung the money on it yet lol  :D

    • Ladislaus, I hear you. I find that I am not focusing entirely the whole time. When I realize this I fix it. Then I wander off again and fix it. Rinse and repeat. 
    I suppose it may be easier for me since I drive for a living and most of it is on a kind of autopilot. 
    I am noticing however that the more I do this, the less lack of focus I have. I was thinking that my lack of focus was more due to the fact that I don’t have everything completely memorized yet and am still learning. Another part of the lack of focus on my intention is that I am also trying to understand the words to the rosary more deeply.
