Title: Does the Divine Office have Tenebrae?
Post by: AnthonyPadua on March 24, 2024, 08:11:24 AM
I was looking at Divino Afflatu - 1954 on https://www.divinumofficium.com/ for Tenebrae but can't find it (or maybe I am looking in the wrong place). I'm not too familiar with Tenebrae, I know my missal has it, but I was wondering if it's part of the Divine office?

It's Matins and Lauds of the three days of the Triduum. Tenebrae is that office being chanted.

The Divine Office of Tenebrae, sung by a professional schola. MP3s taken from 3 CDs worth of Gregorian chant! An authentic, masterful, and sublime rendition of the Catholic Church's Divine Office of Tenebrae -- the hour of Matins for the Holy Week Triduum. This Lenten chant was recorded live, with no organ accompaniment, as Tenebrae is part of the Lenten liturgy. Tenebrae consists of 3 albums with lessons and responsories for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. This schola follows the venerable Solesmes method of chant, resulting in a beautiful rendition of solemn, traditional Gregorian chant. Album contents are very similar to what you would have heard in a monastery during Holy Week centuries ago! Tenebrae means darkness, since this part of the Divine Office was usually sung at night. Most of us are unable to be present at a monastery during Holy Week, but this 3-album set allows you to experience the Office of Tenebrae at home! A brilliant addition to any Catholic's Lenten devotions.

Inconfis myself. I saw lessons in the missal and couldn't see it on the website, but it was Just the readings 1-9.
