Advisory Notice: Although this post could be interpreted as a discussion of sedevacantism, this was not the intent whereby this post has been created. The Collect in question has been posted either for the private use of those individuals to whom such prayer is useful for whatever reason [devotional, academic, &c.], as well as for those who enjoy such liturgical curiosities, which are almost unknown gems in the great liturgical treasury that Holy Mother Church has given us as our birthright. Therefore I think it appropriate to post it in this sub-forum, rather in the Crisis in the Church sub-forum, as it is not the author's intention to provoke anyone or engage in any polemical exchange regarding this Collect. I kindly ask out of courtesy that posters be pleased to discuss the controversial issues concomitant with individuals views and opinions that are pertinent to the matter in question the Crisis in the Church sub-forum. Thank you for your courtesy and cooperation.
Hello everyone:
The Carmelite Rite, that is the Rite of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre at Jerusalem, a Medieval usage preserved by the Calced Carmelites, has a curious rubric for the Admonitions and Prayers that follow the chanting of the Passion on Good Friday. If the Holy See is vacant, the usual admonition and prayer for the Roman Pontiff are omitted and the following admonition and prayer are chanted. This is the only Rite that has such a provision in the rites of Good Friday [that is, of which I personally know].
The following text is from The Missal According to the Carmelite Rite in Latin and English for Every Day in the Year, published at Rome by the Vatican Polyglot Press in 1953, having an Imprimi potest given by Rev. Fr. Kilian E. Lynch, Prior General of the Carmelite Order, at Rome, 12 June 1953.
