  • She is a favorite among some of us at home. I remember getting to go see her incorrupt body several years ago, and her village of Cascia was not on our itinerary. We were blessed to journey there.

  • She's a great saint.  Just a few days ago, a long-time Traditional Catholic ... from a very large mostly-Traditional family, whose name was Rita, passed away, and her funeral Mass was offered by Father Leo Carley in Akron OH yesterday ... on the feast of St. Rita.  Please pray for Rita Halmasy (maiden name Crookston).  She was 62, and she only first learned she had cancer about 3-4 weeks ago, and then it progressed very quickly.

Also, my sister is named Rita.  So, after my father went back to Hungary for a visit (he went to the US after WW2) and met my mother, my parents were married secretly (with the Communists still in control) by a priest who just grabbed an elderly couple who happened to be sitting there to act as witnesses.  But they didn't want to let my Mom out of the country.  So she prayed to St. Rita as a patroness of impossible causes, and a miraculous series of events transpired where the Hungarian government let them both leave and go to the United States.  She had promised St. Rita that she would name her first daughter after her, and after 4 boys, and nearing the end of her child-bearing years, my sister Rita was born.

St. Rita is also a great saint for those with wayward children, along the lines of St. Monica, as her sons were up to no good due to the influence of her husband (their father).
