• Here is the Commentary for the XVIIIth Sunday after Pentecost!

Also attached herewith is the text for Vespers and Mass of the Feast of the Purity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, for which the Missale Romanum has Mass formulary in the appendix entitled Missae propriae quae in aliquibus locis celebrari possunt for the 16th of October. The text is taken from the tome The Missal-Vesperal with Commentary (Turnhout, Belgium: Brepolis Catholic Press, 1932).

  • Here is the commentary for the Last Sunday after Pentecost!

A very important thing to note: Chronologically this coming Sunday is the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost. However, if you wish to follow the Priest at the Altar during Holy Mass you would have to look up the "24th and Last Sunday after Pentecost" in your hand Missals. According to Matters Liturgical: The Collectio Rerum Liturgicarum of Rev. Joseph Wuest, C.Ss.R. (trans. Rev. Thomas W. Mullaney, C.Ss.R, ed. Rev. William T. Barry; 10th rev. ed; New York: Frederick Pustet Company, 1959):

    Quote
If the number of Sundays after Pentecost is just 23, the Office and Mass of the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost are that year to be entirely omitted and the Office and Mass of the 24th and Last Sunday after Pentecost are said instead [no. 533].

Please be assured of my prayers, and please pray for me!

  • The rubrics regarding the anticipation of the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost on the previous Saturday have been abrogated by the General Decree De rubricis ad simpliciorem formam redigendis (Tit. II., num. 6) promulgated by the Congregation of Sacred Rites by authority of Pope Pius XII (23 March 1955; A. A. S., vol. xlvii., pp. 218 sqq.). However, since numerous Catholics attend Masses offered by clerics who do not obey this General Decree promulgated by the Apostolic See, the commentary authored by the late Cardinal Schuster for the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost is given for the sake of those Catholics who plan to attend Saturday Mass at such Chapels or Mass centers.
