  • Is it permissable to have a priest confessiong during Mass -througout most of the Mass and even during the Canon? This happened at a traditional Latin Mass this Sunday where a visiting priest was present and so confessions were held past their normal time and extended for most of the Mass time. I'm not sure but I think that the remainder one or two people who were standing in the confession line even ended up going to confession during the consecration (not 100% this happened, but I think maybe it did). And the people who went to confession during Mass were those who were attending the Mass, not just showing up for confession.

  • To the best of my knowledge this is normal. It happens regularly here.

  • I don't see why not. I've seen it too.

  • It certainly makes going to confession that much more convenient -- especially considering the people who need confession the most are the ones who can't/won't get to Mass 1/2 hour or 45 min. early so they can be first in line.

I think many times the priest "pauses" the confession line during the Consecration, then resumes afterward.

Anyhow, I've seen this done at MANY traditional chapels, including the Seminary. So it must be perfectly OK.
