Are you supposed to genuflect before communion? Make the sign of the cross before or after?
I see people doing different things at mass and it's confusing.
Those are merely acts of reverence, but genuflecting on both knees and bowing is the proper way to genuflect whenever the Blessed Sacrament is exposed, but this is not normal for communion - depending on the layout I suppose.
The sign of the cross is proper since you just received God Himself into your soul, I mean, it's like a person that comes to your house, but you don't wave, hug or shake His hand, you make the sign of the cross to welcome God Himself into your soul after the priest moves away so you don't hit the paten by mistake.
