From the Martyrologium Romanum (Romæ: Typis Polyglottis Vaticanis, 1956), with an English translation taken from the Winter tome of The Roman Breviary Reformed by Order of the Holy Œcuмenical Council of Trent; Published by Order of Pope St. Pius V; and Revised by Clement VIII, Urban VII, and Leo XIII; Together with the Offices Since Granted and the Martyrology, translated by John Patrick Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute (Edinburgh and London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1908), here are the sublime words whereby Holy Mother Church has her Religious and clerics announce in sacred chant at Prime the central event of history, the great Mystery that we shall adore tomorrow:

From The Saint Andrew Daily Missal with Vespers for Sundays and Feasts by Dom Gaspar Lefebvre, O.S.B., of the Abbey of St- André (Bruges, Belgium: Liturgical Apostolate of the Abbey of St-André, 1956), here is the Mass for the Vigil of the Nativity of Our Lord.

From the tome Daily Breviary Meditations: Meditations for Every Day on the Scriptural Lessons of the Roman Breviary, in accordance with the Encyclical "Divino Afflante," vol. 1, written by His Excellency the Most Rev. Joseph Angrisani, Bishop of Casale-Monferrato, and translated by Rev. Father Joseph A. McMullin of St. Charles Seminary at Philadelphia, PA (New York: Benziger Brothers, Inc., 1954), here is a commentary upon the lessons at Matins for the Office of the Vigil of the Nativity of Our Lord.

Although these beautiful and edifying reflections were written for clerics, layfolk may gain exceeding great benefit therefrom, especially since the prayerful reading of these commentaries upon Holy Writ may enable the interior soul to enter unto the profundity and behold the sublimity of the sacred Mysteries that the Lord God has vouchsafed us in the selfsame Sacred Scriptures.
