  •   Did the dead body of Christ possess divinity? Or the Divine nature left it?

  • This is a GREAT question, spouse!

As I understand it, the Divinity WAS still united to the Sacred Body, although the soul of Jesus had, indeed, been separated therefrom (which is the definition of death).  I am sorry I cannot say more now, but perhaps someone else will give you a much more complete answer.  Godspeed.

  •  My intention for asking this question was to make sure I am not under a material heresy. I was afraid lest I believe for example that it hadn't the Divinity while the revers is true.
This could make me a material heretic IMO. Thus I felt obliged to ask this question and know the truth.
    Perhaps I am too scruplous.

  • I can't remember for sure, but I believe this is touched on in The Passion of Jesus and It's Hidden Meaning.  I believe the author concluded the Divinity of Christ did not leave His body.

Okay, I have not read any of the responses, as I wanted to give my own understanding to see if I am a heretic or not!  I would say, 'Yes, Christ's body was always divine.'  So, am I correct?

  • Everybody is correct about the Divinity of Christ remaining intact.  Otherwise, it could not be said that God died for our sins, and we would be left with nothing but heresy and damnation.

His Divinity is inseparable from His humanity.  The humanity of Christ is made of a human body and a human soul, just like all other men, for He was true man.  His human body is Divine and His human soul is Divine, as He is true God, even in His humanity.

His human soul, which is Divine, separated from His body, which also is Divine, at His death.  His Divine and human soul descended to the dead, while His Divine and human body remained in the sepulcher.

He then willed for His soul and body to be reunited, neither one having ever been any less God or man.

  •   So the whole body of Christ was God, even it's parts like hands, teeth, bones, and nails?

Maybe this gives a hint to the answer to your question:

    Quote
The Fathers always explain that this physical union of the two natures does not mean the intermingling of the natures, nor any such union as would imply a change in God, but only such union as was necessary to explain the fact that one Divine Person had human nature as His own true nature together with His Divine nature.
