  • I am looking for a basic page with the meditations for the Franciscan Crown rosary (not just a list, something such as the scripture references or other revelant material for meditation joined with it plus the prayers to be said)
I recant many opinions on the crisis in the Church and moral theology that I have espoused on here from at least 2019-2021 don't take my postings from that time as well as 2022 possibly too seriously.

  • There are many resources out on the Web.

    Here is an example: https://ofsaustralia.org.au/other-prayers/the-franciscan-crown/

    I hope that helps.

  • Here is a short history on the tradition of the Franciscan Rosary, the Franciscan Crown, otherwise known as the Seraphic Rosary.
Seraphic Rosary   I once had one.  A friend of mine told me years ago that it was a Franciscan tradition that Our Lady died at the age of 72, the number of books in the Bible, Latin Vulgate.  Depending on how you count the books some say 72, others 73 books.  I never verified this tradition among the Franciscans, and I wonder if this tradition dates to St. Francis himself. If any one knows anything post it up.

  • Do you want the traditional Franciscan Crown dictated by Our Lady or one of the modern versions?

The original from Our Lady, was a circle (the shape of a crown)of seven decades of Hail Marys separated by seven Our Father beads.  NO Creed, nor Glory Be and not the Fatima Prayer.

Shortly after the Franciscans added a pendant to the circle containing  two Hail Mary beads, a space, an Our Father bead, a space, and a final Hail Mary bead ending with the Crucifix. (the first Our Father before the first decade was then moved to the pendant also)

The two additional Hail Marys were to bring the total Hail Marys prayed to seventy-two, the number of years they thought Our Lady lived. (St. Brigitte thought sixty-three with her rosary) and the last Our Father and Hail Mary were for the Pope to gain the indulgences that had now been attached to the Crown.
This all happened about the same time the Franciscans added the second half to the Hail Mary itself. (that is why when the Anglicans pray the rosary their Hail Mary is still just the first half).

To gain the indulgences you only have to announce each Joy, no meditation is required.
Sadly the modern versions have adapted the pendant and prayers from the St. Bridgette and Dominican rosaries

Below is a picture of a Franciscan Crown as it has been for the past five hundred years .
