Title: Cathinfo souls
Post by: josefamenendez on March 27, 2024, 09:42:35 AM
I don't know about anyone else, but I have a terrible memory and often forget to pray for deceased and presumed deceased members of Cathinfo.
In recent years, Matto, RC1958 and Myrna have died or disappeared.
I hope I'm not presumptuous in asking Matthew if maybe he could devote a small area on the home page with their user names so we won't forget them.
It would be great if every time we accessed the site we would be able say an Ave for them.
Blessed Holy week to all.

So sweet and thoughtful. So typical of you!

Nice idea.  How about down near the "Users Online" section?

I seem to remember someone suggesting Matthew do exactly that a while back and if memory serves he said maybe at a later date when the list was longer.

Matthew O'Hare    (Matto)          + November 30, AD 2021
Kathleen Donelly  (Donkath)      + December 28, AD 2021
Myrna Migala                              +  August  17, AD 2022

I would add RomanCatholic1953 to this list, as being "missing and presumed dead".

Missing is a bit tricky, since we have had several cases of posters abruptly disappearing just because they didn't want to be here anymore, e.g. SeanJohnson and DigitalLogos.

I agree. So, Sean decided not to come back? Does anyone know why?

.

Sean and Dig made it pretty clear they didn't want to be here anymore, whereas RomanCatholic1953 practically lived on this site, and suddenly stopped posting one day without any explanation.

I think this is a good point too; however, I do wonder whether that would open the door to making subjective decisions on who is listed and who is not.  Perhaps a section to pray for RIP's and another section to pray for MIA former members? I'm just hesitant to consider someone "presumed dead".

Obviously, this is Matthew's call anyway.  This may not be feasible anyway.

Maybe we could just post those who we are sure are deceased, even if it’s just a few . If a member knows for sure that someone has passed ,they could be added at any time.
Of course it’s completely up to Matthew

I miss DigitalLogos.
I get it. I really miss Matto. He was so childlike and sensitive ( and sometimes weird), but great.
Loved his posts.

Same.  If there was one poster I saw eye to eye with 99.5% of the time (on pretty much every single issue), that was DL.  I hope he's OK.  He had a tough time of it, due to not seeing eye to eye with his wife over the Catholic faith, and I can only imagine how the tension escalated dramatically after he lost his job for sticking by his principles.  I'll remember to pray for him this Easter.

Does anyone remember a Chinese traditional Catholic living in mainline China. He was in grave danger for his involvements. He was quite an impressive figure and as far as I know (I can’t look him up because I don’t recall his name) he stopped posting. He could well be dead, or at least incarcerated. Does anyone else recall him.

I was thinking Emile would be able to find him and sure enough a google search brought this thread up (and Emile was the one to find him!)

It would be presumptuous in at least some of these cases to presume they died, but it would be nice to have a section for posters who have gone inactive so we could find them and pray for them.

Obviously, being a website, most inactive accounts are from bots or people who joined, read two posts, and left while still totally fine. But we could limit the section to only those people who have over a certain number of posts or whatever other metric, so that it would only include real Cathinfo users.

Sigh.
We know 2 people that died for sure. Can we start there?

I can confirm DigitalLogos is alive and well. Encountered him a bit on Twitter, but he's since deleted his account.

.

Normally when someone stops posting, I just assume they moved on. I'm talking about people who stop posting, in cases in which there is reason to think something bad happened to them. Obviously this would be pretty rare. RomanCatholic1953 is the only person I can think of. Shortly before RomanCatholic1953 stopped posting, he said something weird about being worried the FBI was going to arrest him, and that if he stopped posting, that's what happened to him. While I certainly don't think the FBI or anyone else arrested him, that statement implies that only being put in prison would prevent him from continuing to post on this forum. And then one day he suddenly vanished. That's why I'm kind of concerned about him. He may have become disabled or something, even if he isn't dead.

Actually, that makes me think about Donachie, the guy in the South who posted stuff that looked like it was written by a computer. At one point I actually thought he was a bot, his posts were so bizarre. I think he probably had mental problems, but was obviously highly intelligent. I hope he's okay too. I haven't seen him here for a while.

Yeah, as time went on, his posts got more and more bizarre, to the point that I thought only someone who's "under the influence" could post such incoherent stuff.  If it was a bot, it was malfunctioning pretty badly.

I agree that his situation is especially odd.  It's also strange that no one has been able to contact him or find an obituary (IIRC Mater tried to research this at some point using whatever information they had).

Ah, I wish I had known that "curioustrad" was Bishop Fulham.  I would have exchanged some PMs with him.  I knew him when he was a seminarian at STAS.

"curioustrad"  -  Bp. Fulham of Florida
"covet truth"  -  Irene Slovak

Irene Slovak and her husband were pillars of the Trad community in the Houston, TX area.
They both passed away within a short time of each other. Only Irene was on CathInfo however.

They were highly supportive of Bp. Zendejas' apostolate, getting a resistance chapel started in La Marque TX. They were some of the volunteers Bp. Z highly relied on.

I think they were some of the volunteers/pioneers in the Trad movement when the SSPX chapel started as well -- Queen of Angels, which is close to Bp. Z's current chapel there.

It's always edifying to see a couple who even in their old age aren't afraid to "do it all again" when they SHOULD expect a bit more ease and comfort -- retirement -- in their autumn years.

I knew many such pillars at St. Joseph's Chapel in San Antonio -- but none of them were willing to "do it all again" in the Resistance. They wanted ease, comfort, and retirement now. Sad.

Pray for them both (Mr. & Mrs. Slovak), but know that there is very good hope that they saved their souls.
