  •   Does this group look like the Vatican II Novus Ordo people at your local Catholic parish?

Just kidding. This is a group from Brasil called Os Mutantes.
The Leader of the group, Sergio Diaz, is marketing a super guitar (lots of special switches and effects) called the Kier (new Golden Guitar). I read a post from an online forum that the guitar comes with a curse to anyone who tries to steal the guitar or steal the technology in the making of the guitar. The curse (stamped on a plate) invokes spirits to return the guitar and its secret properties to the rightful owner.

That made me think, wow , these guys take their views of spirituality a lot more seriously than most people practice their "faith". Instead of invoking the dark side, I thought I would check out a source for Catholic blessings. I really forgot how important that we should invoke God's blessings by dedicating important physical items to His service.

        Here is an example.

    BLESSING OF WINE
    FOR THE SICK

    V. Our help is in the name of the Lord.
    R. Who has made heaven and earth.

    V. The Lord be with you.
    R. And with your spirit.

    Let us pray.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
in Cana of Galilee You turned water into wine.
Be so kind as to bless and sanctify this wine
    which You have made
and given for the sustenance of Your servants,
so that, wherever men may pour this wine,
    and whoever drinks of it,
may be filled with the richness of Your goodly blessing.

    Almighty, everlasting God,
eternal salvation of those who believe,
hear our prayers for Your sick servant (or servants)
for whom we ask help in Your mercy,
that he (she or they) may regain health
and return thanks to You in Your Church,
    through Christ our Lord.

    R. Amen.

(Then the wine is sprinkled with holy water.)

Oh yeah, if anyone finds a blessing for guitar or musical instrument, let me know.

    BLESSING OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

    Loving Father,
we praise you for your goodness
in making the beauty of this world
and for calling us to be your people.

We thank you for all the gifts you give to your Church,
especially the gift of music and song.
We ask you to bless + these musical instruments.
Bless + those who use them
to give joy to your people
and to lead them in praising you more fully.

    Father,
we give you thanks and praise
through Jesus Christ, our brother and our Lord,
in the unity of your Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

    Amen.
