  • Catholic pilgrims pray at Lough Derg, one of the oldest Christian pilgrimage sites in the world. For more than one thousand years pilgrims, including St. Patrick himself, have come to pray at the stations of the cross in bare feet.  1997

  • 1969 nuns in vietnam:

Nice today but in 1969 they'd already shed their traditional habit to the modified one shown.
Don't even want to think of what they're wearing now.

    What was their traditional habit?

  • 1969 nuns in vietnam:

That stuff is just plain ugly.  I don't know why anyone would choose this junk over a tradtiional habit.  It's like trying to blend the world and religion and then not fitting in with either one.

There was a joke in a cartoon series where the main character's son was doing Christian Rock, and the dad's response was, "you're not making Christianity better; you're making rock-n-roll worse."  Same thing here.  They're not making nuns better, but they're making fashion worse.  There's the old joke about how you can spot an NO nun even without any head covering by her "sensible shoes".

You can almost sense female religious about people.  There were a few women who I could swear had the "nun" look or vibe about them, where I actually found out later that they were ex-nuns.

  • What was their traditional habit?
You'd have to know to which order they belonged as the outfit in the picture is pretty generic to several orders.
