  • Do you eat low carb breads or tortillas? Low carb + meatless is tough, but one of my favorites right now in that category is avocado toast.
I'm going to have to up my carbs even though I don't really want to. I have been eating sprouted organic breads and am starting on brown rice. I am even starting with some fruits. I am surprised at how much I am enjoying a good navel orange ( but that defeats the point, right? lol). I'd like to be as stringent as they were in the old days, but physically  I have a soft modernist constitution that needs a much slower discipline.

  • Give up the unholy trinity of foods:
    Seed oils
    Sugar
Refined carbs, i.e. bread, rice, sugar

Then after Lent, you’ll realize you don’t miss them and will be better off moving forward

  • Give up the Four Fast Food Groups,
    1. Sugar
    2. Salt
    3. Fat
    4. Caffeine
    1. Sugar- you’re correct

    2. Salt - refined salt yes, i.e. Morton’s, but instead use pink Himalayan salt(70+ nutrients in this type of salt) or Redmond’s Salt as they are solid and  good nutritional supplements , body needs sodium, do not neglect that

    3. Fat - biggest lie we’ve been told is to avoid fat, without good fat, such as fat from meat, we would die an early death. Red meat is critically important, it provides more nutrients than you can obtain from any other source on earth, it’s solid ancestral eating at its finest. There is not a single medical study that can suggest otherwise. Do the homework on this so you’ll be well informed as opposed to taking my word for it.

    4. - Caffeine…no evidence to suggest that this should be avoided but each person needs to assess their own tolerance

    • “Give up your normal entertainment—music, social media, television, Netflix—and replace that time with prayer, spiritual reading, or quality time with loved ones.
    • Abstain from complaining. Instead, spread some compliments.
    • Pray the Stations of the Cross and meditate on the Lord’s Passion.
    • Offer your illness or suffering for the conversion of sinners.
    • Get out of bed right when your alarm goes off. Or, get up early for extra prayer time!
    • Do some extra chores around the house.
    • Take a shorter or cooler shower than usual.
    • Go out of your way to help a friend or visit the homebound.
    • Offer your day for a specific intention—pray a Memorare once each waking hour for that intention.
    • Stop by an Adoration chapel for face-to-face time with the Lord.”
I love these ideas Viva. Thank you.

What's wrong with carbs? Bread seems like it will be a stable for me, maybe with peanut butter instead of butter. Carbs provide energy.

Nothing wrong with salt and fats... You need both, especially salts for proper balance in your cells.
Also there is a big difference between sugar in fruits and added sugar.

:jester: I meant it as a joke, not nutritional advice.  #’s 1-3, we actually do need these in the right quality and quantity. Doctors go back and forth on the caffeine question, if there are benefits or if, as the Mormons and JW’s assert, it’s demonic. It’s not a nutrient, so we don’t need it to exist.  Many people “need” their morning ☕️, and the British like their 🫖, but it’s an individual thing.  If you’re someone who’s a coffee hound, yes, it might be a good Lenten sacrifice.  If you smoke or drink, giving those up for Lent is a challenge.  Same with cannabis, but I don’t want to restart that argument. If you do illegal drugs, quit it and not just for Lent!

No such thing as an essential carb, bread is not good, lots of research out there suggests that

I have to do so as well.  I have a particular intention that apparently needs a lot of prayer.

You are correct, it’s because of that I am a carnivore, haven’t eaten a fruit or veggie in 6 months, we’ve been lied to about them as well. Red meat has way more nutrition then any fruit or veggie; not saying don’t eat them if they’re working for you but all fruit is loaded with sugar and fiber doesn’t digest well, all fiber is good for is moving the veggies out of your system; you don’t get gas from meat, only from vegetables. But, TBH, please do your own research like I did, will never tell anyone to take my word for this stuff

But God first gave us plants (genesis) to eat before meat (Noah). I find eating a salad gives me more solid bowel movements.
