I saw this today on YouTube. Something he says starting around the 7:00 mark doesn't sound correct to me, although I could be wrong. Keep in mind that this video was made shortly before his death and about ten years after the NOM had been foisted upon the world, so he's referring to the NOM. It's well known that he was infected heavily with the "Spirit of Vatican II."
In the video, he says that "when the bread and wine are brought to the altar, you are brought to the altar." Now, I know that we do, in fact, offer ourselves in union with Christ, but I've always understood that it's Christ alone Who's being brought to the altar, to Golgotha. He also says that, "In the Offertory [sic], therefore, you become present on the altar. You're on the paten; you're in the chalice...under the form of bread and wine. That is your symbol." Perhaps when he says "symbol," he's distinguishing between the Real Presence and our symbolic presence. I'm not trying to be unfair to Archbishop Sheen, and many of the things he says in the remainder of the video are very good. But was he showing signs of Vatican II Syndrome or am I reading too much into this?
