  • Please forgive me if I sound ignorant, keep in mind I left the Bogus Ordo very recently and still have a lot to learn about tradition. I got copy of a book of the little office in Spanish last month, I think. However, I didn't look at the dates and I found out that my book is from the 1780's!   Is that too old? From what year is your book from?

  • Too old?  No such thing!  When it comes to the breviary and variances of it, I wouldn't say "it doesn't make a difference" but since we're under no obligation to pray it in the first place, we can really pray whichever we'd like-- though of course, avoiding any conciliar (and for some, the John XXIII breviary) offices.

I pray the Pius X rubrics, Divino Afflatu.

It sounds like you've got a treasure there.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • The older, the better.  I pray Divino Afflatu too, mithrandylan.  It's hard to live without it once you get started, isn't it?  Best wishes, Pollozlocoz.

    Indeed!

  • Thank you for your answers. I was worried that my version was outdated or something, but now I see that isn't a problem. Also just an FYI, my book itself isn't from the 18th century, it's just a copy.

If you had one from the 18th century that wasn't a copy, that would be quite the gem!

Some feasts may not be included.  But I have very little experience with the little office, and I think I've only used it for some minor hours.  I don't know if there are any or many commemorations to begin with.  I wouldn't think this would lead you to "miss out" by using it.

Yes but I do have two pre-1962 missals in Spanish and French that my aunt gave me (She  died  two months ago, she was in her late 80's)one was printed in 1957 and the other in 1948. The problem with old books is that they come damaged most of the time, and you have to be careful when turning the pages because they are fragile. Surprisingly, the one that was printed in '48 is in better condition and looks almost new from the inside.

There  is  no mention of any feasts, actually. The psalms and reading remain the same everyday.
