Dear all,

Does anyone know a good Catholic prayer for an alcoholic husband?  Preferably a pre Vatican II one.

Thank you and God bless.

St. Alphonsus recommended all prayers through Mary.  Story goes:  St. Alphonsus preached 'All Through Mary"  and those that were at rock bottom in their agonies did this.  And they were happier for it.  Other saints fasted and sacrificed for their parishioners such as St. Cure of Ars.  St. Charles Borromeo, with results.

"Oh Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you all my prayers, works, joys and  sufferings of this day.  For all the intentions of thy Most Sacred Heart.  In Union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, throughout the world. In reparation for our sins and for all of our associates, and in particular for all the intentions of this month...(and whatever you like).

The little book of St Gertrude, Love, Joy and Peace is very good in directions/guidance in how to suffer, offer up sufferings. their value and etc.

There is a prayer for alcoholics in the Christian Mother's prayer book  "Mother Love"
from the 1800's.  Pius V actually reprinted the 1929 edition.
I'll look it up.

Yes - can vouch a bit for Matt Talbot.  Was able to pray at his tomb in Dublin once for a particular person who was quite alcoholic.  That person is now totally "drink free."  Tough case, too.  Thanks be to God, Our Lady - and Matt.
