A Church in the Woods

  • Many years ago, when I was a new convert, I had the desire to build a Church in the woods. I was thinking of Saint Augustine. So I gathered stones together. I went into the woods and gathered stones and put them in bags and carried the stones from the woods to my house. Then I put the stones in my garden to make a path. Like the Via Appia. To walk upon from the garden to the gate.

    And then I wandered into the woods, and in this my brother Michael helped me. I went into the woods, the woods across Freedom Drive from where my brother died, and I looked for large stones. Not pebbles, but big ones suitable for building a little chapel. I chose a place where the "Elves" would make their fires and have their ceremonies. I took the large stones and gathered them up and started to built the wall of the Church. I never finished because I lost hope, but someday a priest will come and say Mass there. He could set up a portable altar and consecrate the ground and make it a real Church. Anywhere that a priest ever says a Mass becomes sacred ground and in a sense becomes a Church. The angels who are present at the Sacrifice remain there until the end of the world, Honoring and Worshipping the Blood of Christ which was made present there now and forever and ever and ever.

    Do you think I could get an SSPX priest to go into the middle of the woods and say a Mass for us there on a portable altar? Perhaps I could offer a donation for his time? Then my dream of building a Church in the middle of the woods would have been realized. I would have the Mass said for the repose of the soul of my Brother Patrick, who I neglect in my prayers.

    Take up the stones and gather them together;
    Gather the stones and send them away.
    R.I.P.
    Please pray for the repose of my soul.
