  • I just read on another forum that 2Vermont said her Jєωιѕн Father is dying. Please pray that he is converted and accepts baptism.

Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • Today on this Feast Day of St. Philomena, it is said nothing is refused, when asked of St. Philomena.

Let us ALL ask of the Saint for his willingness to be Baptised.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • Thank you to Matto for being so kind as to post this thread.  When I saw it, it brought tears to my eyes.

I appreciate everyone's prayers.  I continue to pray as well, but I think it is highly doubtful that baptism will take place for a couple of reasons:

Except as a child, my father never really practiced the Jєωιѕн religion (except for the holidays). As he got older he became more and more anti-religion.  Having said that, as an aside, one thing that he said to me I will never forget and made a real impact on me:  "if you are going to be Catholic, do it 100%".

He is currently in the latter stage of dementia, so he is not in his right mind.  Even if he asked for baptism, there is no way to know that he truly desires it or if he is just....talking more nonsense.

Regardless, prayers are never wasted and I thank you.  He was given a month to live, but I suspect it won't be longer than a couple of weeks.
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

The above sounds like grace talking. Ask your priest and see if it would be licit to baptize him if he has a moment of lucidity and says yes, but only do so under his advice.

    How's it going?
Any news or perhaps improvements to report?
What did your priest say about this idea??

This made me think, you ought to ask your priest about doing a Conditional Baptism, that is, if your father is incoherent and on in danger of death, and says something that sounds like he wants Baptism, you could give a Conditional Baptism, just in case he's not as delusional as he seems.  I've had replies in both ways, one priest says it's a good idea, and another says you shouldn't do it, but I don't know what their criteria were.

  • Just wanted to thank everyone for their concern and prayers.  Dad's wife called me to let me know that he died this morning.

    And no, no baptism.

I suppose we can say we tried. My deepest sympathy to you, 2Vermont.
I've been thinking about him, so I'm glad you made this post.
