  • Hi! Please take time to look at the fundraiser I created today for a family friend. His family is unable to constantly pay out of pocket for Jesse’s medical bills. We have done everything we can to help him, but a fundraiser was my idea in hopes he will get the assistance he needs. Do let me know if you’re having problems with the fundraiser. Thank you.

  • I do think you have a few problems with the fundraiser.

    1. " he sustained a C5 spinal cord injury" What was the result?  Was it a bad bruise that will heal in a couple weeks or is he paralysed from the neck down...if so can he breath on his own?  What is the long term prognosis?  In short what is his present condition?

    2. "especially for someone in his physical condition"  again just what is his condition today?.

    3. "Jesse received his Green Card in Oct. 2022"  That's 16 months after he arrived in the US.  How was that possible looking at the picture you posted?

    4.  " he speaks French and is currently studying English"  I don't see how the man in the picture can be learning English much less even speaking.

    5.  "Until Oct. 2027, Jesse has no coverage for hospital, ambulance transport, or housing bills."
How did he enter the US?  Didn't someone have to sign to be responsible for him?  Why are they not looking after him?

6." the facility where Jesse resides have asked him to return to his uncle‘s "  What is the name of the facility and what kind of facility is it...a hospital, a rehab center. a hospice?

I've not a lot of experience with GoFund me's but the ones I've seen always list the recipients full name, and also the full name of the person requesting the funds.  It's not a place to be anonymous.

Many people are going through rough times but still try to be generous to those less fortunate.
However we are also bothered almost daily with scams.  Your posting has too many questions not answered and just adding some religion isn't enough to make it sound credible.

You should add full names, his current status, a list of what medical devices and meds he needs and definitely a current picture.  Also what the doctor's say his outcome will be.
I'm not trying to be harsh but I believe you'll need to be much more specific to be successful.

  • This is in fact my first time setting up a fundraiser so let me answer all of your questions:

Question 1 and 2: He is paralyzed from the neck down, however,  it is an incomplete injury- meaning he still has upper body movement and some sensations. That means there still could be a chance for him to gain some independence back as well as mobility. He breaths independently and his diet is regular. After the accident, the doctor in Africa diagnosed his condition as a C5 injury due to Jesse’s movements and sensations. His present condition is he is unable to walk but the deep wounds he has are healing fast. So there is progress.

Question 3: I posted several pictures to show that he is an actual patient. Jesse remained in Africa until his father advised he go the States for better healthcare. His uncle and aunt helped him get a Green Card so he could be in the US legally and to hopefully receive benefits. They are the ones that signed for him to be here legally.  Since his uncle already has 4 children himself taking care of a quadriplegic in his home was a burden. However, Jesse did have benefits to help with his medical bills but it was only recently Medicaid took the insurance away due to lack of citizenship. His uncle and aunt are the only two people in the US, but the uncle doesn’t want the responsibility due to the situation of the health insurance for Jesse.

Question 4 and 5: Jesse was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the people there widely speak French. His first language is French and it is the only language his parents speak. He is learning English in order to communicate.

The only devices he uses are: Powered electric chair and bioness hand devices.

List of medications:  Baclofen, ferrous sulfate, gabapentin, midodrine, miratazapine, oxybutynin, and propranoloL.

  • Let me add full names and a list of medications on the fundraiser for everyone to see.

The pictures of him in the hospital gown are from May and July of this year.

The facility he is at is a nursing home and a rehab center. It is located here in Florence, KY. I can privately message the location of the center, if you wish.

  • it seems your pictures aren't showing up.  There was only one picture in a hospital bed and now only a picture of some sort of docuмent.
My prior post was just to let you know what people expect to know to help them decide if they want to donate.

  • I'm curious what your relationship is to him and how you came to be acquainted with someone from Congo.  Is he a parishoner in Walton?  He doesn't really look like a traditional Catholic (earrings, bantu knots).  I've looked him up on Facebook and honestly it's sounding alarms so it would be good to fill in some blanks.

We need more information to ascertain the legitimacy of this fundraiser.

  • I am actually only a friend. My entire family works in healthcare, and we became acquainted due to the healing of his wounds. He was raised in the Novus Ordo, but fell away from the Faith after he went to college. In December last year, he received Extreme Unction when he was septic. The priest that did the Last Rites is an African priest at Immaculate Heart in Burlington, KY- it’s the only Catholic Church in Burlington. His family attends that parish.

In Africa, braiding hair of men and and women is very common. From what I understand, most black men tend to have earrings. He also does have a FB but it’s not under the last name I provided in the fundraiser but Legrand.

  • Do you all feel I should delete the fundraiser? I am willing to do that in order to bring about something else.

It’s raising too many questions and no one has to donate. Another course of action we could take is speak to the hospital about getting him on the financial assistance program.

Yes that's the FB page I found.  Please understand over the years there's been a few fraudsters show up with GoFundMe campaigns so us oldtimers have become more discerning shall we say.

To me it's more credible that you admit he's not traditional than if you said he was.  I appreciate your candor.

Thought I would hop on here one last time and say thank you so much. I perfectly understand your stance on fundraisers and its legitimacy.

I at least ask that everyone add the intentions of this young man, Jesse, to your rosaries. This way his future can be secured and his situation resolved. Thanks again.
