Did you know that the 12 Days of Christmas actually originated in England during the time of persecutions there, in order to teach/spread the Faith? I always thought that was interesting.
It was also spread by embroidering hidden messages in lace, fabrics and things like vestments in many parts of the world.
Victorians were well-known for their "Language of Flowers." Each kind of flower has a specific meaning, etc., so a person could assemble a bouquet of specific flowers and propose marriage, reject it, announce a friendship, grieve a death, and so on.
You might like looking up things like Mary Gardening. It's fun. For example, there is a legacy of Rosemary and why it is blue, and what it represents and how it got its fragrance. It was said that Our Lady would hang the clothes of the Baby Jesus up to dry, and that the herb developed its aroma because of it. It is blue because Our Lady hung them.
It was years ago that I heard that, and haven't an exact source at the ready, but I think it came from some papers my Mom had that were left after she died. I have no clue what happened to them; she had a ton of stuff I gave away or sold, etc.
But there are still some books around and websites available. Anne :-)
