  • Girolamo Savonarola, ora pro nobis

That reminds me, I need to get back to his Collected Works and finish it.

"Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

"In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

"A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]

"Savonarola is among the just in Paradise", so it must be true!

  • Huge stretch to call him a martyr.

There were quite a few popes who approved of devotion to him in sounder times than our own. For example, (citing from this video) Pope Clement VIII allowed images of Savonarola to be made and venerated, with these images having titles inscribed such as "Blessed, Virgin, Doctor," and most relevant to this conversation, "Martyr".

    Here's an epiphany: relax. Chill.

And check out the video posted by St. Louis. Evidently some people who might indeed speak with some authority would agree with me.
You know then how to discern the face of the sky: and can you not know the signs of the times? (Matthew 16:3)

There is a way which seemeth just to a man: but the ends thereof lead to death. (Proverbs 14:6)

  • The Dominican Savonarola and the Reformation - Very Rev. J. Procter

A defense of the great Dominican martyr against the slanders and lies of the Anglican church.

Thank you very much for bringing attention to this fine work.  I was shocked the other day to see how Judge Andrew A. Napolitano who is said to be a Catholic had these words concerning the valiant Monk included in the following linked article.  I am sending a copy of the Very Rev. J. Procter's defense of Savonarola (The Dominican Savonarola and the Reformation) to the Judge for his comment.

    https://www.judgenap.com/bloody-gina-and-her-team-of-torturers/

"In the late 1400s, when the Medici in Florence had been deposed by a mad monk named Girolamo Savonarola, he instituted aggressive torture for those accused secretly of sins of the flesh, looking for their public confessions and the identities of their sɛҳuąƖ partners.

He, like Bloody Gina, refused to accept testimony from a detained person unless it was obtained under torture. And he, like Bloody Gina, instituted a novel torture technique of hanging a victim by his arms secured behind his back so as to induce excruciating shoulder dislocation."
