Someone brought to my attention a grievous error in the translation of the Ordinary of the Mass given above: on page 211, the vernacular translation of the prayer Aufer a nobis has "...enter with pure minds into the Holy of sins" instead of "enter with pure minds into the Holy of Holies."

I believe this was a major typo due to the printing process that used metal plates or some such thing, whereby a word could easily be either misplaced or repeated. This printing process was eventually abandoned mostly due to the damage of World War II, when the bombings destroyed the printing presses of Europe and Britain. With the plates destroyed there was no way that this Missal could have been reprinted or have a subsequent edition, or those early Missals of Rev. Fr. Cabrol or any other book in the series of "Liturgy for the Layfolk" printed by the Benedictine Dames of Stanbook Abbey and published in the years following the reforms of Pope St. Pius X: this includes the translation of the Roman Breviary, together with Rubrics, that is now exceedingly rare.

This unfortunate mistake, and there may be others, illustrates the wisdom whereby the Apostolic See took great care in having an edition of a liturgical book (such as the Missale Romanum) printed and examined very thoroughly before it became published: this is true for the typical editions that came directly from Rome, and editions juxta typicam of the liturgical books for Dioceses and Religious Congregations or Institutes, approved by local Ordinaries, Religious Superiors and other pertinent authorities. It usually took 1-3 years for a Missal to be made and find its way into the hands of a Priest.

I am very sorry for not noting this mistake in time. Please forgive me.
