Hello everyone!

I have scanned and attached as JPEG files the very interesting and edifying prefatory treatise found in Rev. Fr. Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange's The One God: A Commentary on the First Part of St. Thomas' Theological Summa (trans. Dom Bede Rose, O.S.B.; St. Louis, MO: B. Herder Book Co., 1946).

The reason why I have done so is because this treatise is exceedingly rare and should be read by all serious students who aspire to attain to greater heights of sacred science.

Enjoy!

  • Thank you very much for those pages. The importance of this theological summary cannot be overemphasized. Our whole system of faith is based on it, and it was rightly placed on the altar during the Council of Trent, whose decrees are as if directly taken from the same work.

Speaking about the Summa: A man once told me, that he reads one article of the Summa each morning during breakfast. In the course of years, he read the entire work nearly two times.
I also adopted this practice and find it very salutary: Very often I am in awe, reading those lines full of depth and sanctity.
But not only that, I think many articles are great for meditations. Then we have actually already reached the higher goal, namely using St. Thomas´ fruits of contemplation to come into a closer union with God ourselves.

Well, I sure wish I would have known about that site: it would have saved me hours of scanning, archiving and cropping.

Well, at least now CathInfo has the original text of this treatise!

This reminds me of the following beautiful prayer, which ought to be said before reading the Summa or studying the sacred sciences:
