  • In recent years I've discovered that a knowledge of the four temperaments is absolutely crucial in attaining the self-knowledge needed to wage effective spiritual warfare. The saints became saints largely through gaining victory over the predominant faults associated with their temperaments. I'm convinced that one is blind - and thus a puppet of the world, the flesh, and the devil - without this knowledge and counteraction.

Those interested in winning this war on earth should read the chapter on the four temperaments from Fr. Antonio Royo Marin's 1962 book, The Theology of Spiritual Perfection. Here it is:

    Royo Marin chapter

Knowledge of the four temperaments is also immensely helpful in dealing with others, not least with one's children.

    For further reading, I recommend:

The Four Temperaments by Conrad Hock

    For free here:

    Also, this:

The Four Temperaments and the Catholic Soul

Though this last one begins with the melancholic, scrolling down reveals that it deals with all four. You'll see.

Finally, you'd do well to listen to these:

  •  :confused1:Link to Conrad Hock didn't work.  Angelus doesn't print it anymore.  Is possibly out of print?
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

[8] But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema. [9] As we said before, so now I say again: If any one preach to you a gospel, besides that which you have received, let him
